Choose Happiness Every Day

January 10, 2012

How do you do it?

How do you get up in the morning when you’ve had hit after hit…

you’re so wrapped up in your universe that you can’t see anything else outside…

It’s OK. Sometimes the world does crumble…and it feels like it’s never going to be made right ever again…

The trick is, looking out, looking at something, some one, other than your cocoon of darkness…

Step outside.

Walk into the light…

Reach out to your inner light, reach out for that GOD particle in yourself… find that truth that brings you in line with the universe.

Allow the Universe to flow through you, unobstructed by fear, by doubt, by attachment to outcomes, attachment to anything.

Let go, and let the universe do your biding.

Stop asking for things! Life is not about THINGS! Right? I mean, when you look back at your life, do you remember THINGS? Or do you remember moments, and people, and places, and things you did?

So when your world comes crashing down again, remember some PERSPECTIVE.

Breathe, and get in touch with your light.

Everything else will sort itself out, and in the end, everything is going to be alright.

And for the pessimists out there, even when you feel like it’s the end of the world, and that you’re only being dealt a bad hand, maybe it’s time to change your priorities, view things from a different perspective?

When life gets really tough to handle, that’s when it’s the hardest to see any light, see any hope… I mean I get it, really! I am not immune to the world crumbling around me… It’s been happening a whole lot lately…

But how can I deny my path? How can I say no to my lesson?

Buddha said that all life is pain. I believe that wholeheartedly. And at the same time, I believe that only the STRONG are dealt heartache, because they’re the only ones that can handle it. Think about it. If you couldn’t handle all the pain in your life, all the disasters, all the surgeries, all the judgments, all the disappointments, don’t you think that it would stop? somehow, you’ve been able to make it, through everything… so don’t you give up now!

Don’t give up now. One more step, towards the light, and I promise, it will get better. If only for a while, it will get better. Then when the wheel turns again, and it all looks dark and heavy again, remember the LIGHT. Remember that you did get out of the last darkness, that the universe was there, providing a way out last time.

And if you still can’t make your way out of the darkness, a psychologist could help. Especially one that can infuse psychology with spirituality, giving you the tools you need now, and help you build the necessary skills to cope later. Look for a counselor that can help you change behavior, as well as thought.

And when everything you have has been taken away, destroyed, maimed, or sold from under you, GIVE OF YOURSELF. Give everything you have, give your time, give your smile, give your light.  And the world will be better, and you will be better.

Smile now, and breathe and let the universe flow through you. Renounce attachment to the WAY things come your way, and focus & visualize the outcome. Don’t freak out when you lose your job. Allow the universe to provide you another way for you to pay your bills. Remove the blockages, and the river that is the universe will flow through you making all your dreams come true.

Breathe! Again… and again… and again… and release the stress from the shoulders, from your face, and from your thoughts. Breathe deeply and fill yourself with the light that unites us all, and moves us through the universe together. We are all one, and we are all with you, helping you making all your dreams come true.

Trust! Trust that the universe is listening, and the it will provide what you need. Trust yourself in making all of it happen when the time comes. Trust that you will be happy, content with your job/work, at peace in your family, in love with your significant other, appreciative and respectful with yourself. Trust and love yourself and your path, and let it unfold beneath your feet, because it is already there, no matter what. Might as well enjoy the journey, don’t you think?

Detach from fear, outcomes, negativity, and knickknacks. Clean your environment from dust gathering objects=stale and dead energy. Clear your closet of things that used to look good on you as well as things that will look good on you in the future=this is denying your body’s present state, and present joy. Let go of old loves, and focus on the person in front of you: yourself. If you are in a relationship and it’s not making you happy, re-evaluate. Were you happy? Will you be happy? Can you do something-and I don’t mean change the other person- yourself to make the relationship better? If there is, then do it wholeheartedly! Stay present in your body, in your day to day life, and in your self, and choose happiness.

And I leave you with that: CHOOSE HAPPINESS EVERY DAY! consciously, purposefully, fully aware that that’s the reason you have made it to this point, so you can choose it again and again.

Breathe….

and from me to you, Peace, Love and Light!

How do you live your life?

August 5, 2010

Yes! How do you live your life? actually, how do you love your life? That’s the question I am asking you. In effect, that’s the question I am asking myself.
How am I living my life?
Am I living my life in fear, hiding behind my own fear of living a truly happy life?
Am I allowing my heart to make the decisions, and guide me to where I need to be?
Am I conforming to societal rules, square peg in a square box? Live here, work this type of job, drive this kind of car, dress in these kinds of clothes, have a family, with 2.3 children…
… I have always rebelled against rules, especially those rules that told me WHO I was! These rules, they’ve always felt so superficial, restrictive, and I saw those rules building a terrifyingly “sheeple” society. I couldn’t name it then, I had no idea about sheeple, about the heard of unfulfilled zombies that seem to populate the world. Half dead half alive automatons that get up in the morning, go to a boring and unhappy JOB, come home to a society prescribed recipe for life: suburban house, 2 car garage, family, mortgage, car payments, credit card payments, 2 week vacation per year. If you believe that that’s the way to live, please stop reading now!

WHAT A NIGHTMARE!!!! I’m cringing at the thought of it, and all those memories from when I lived that cookie cutter life are flooding back in… what a sad little life of followers and brain dead people we are building. I did live that life, for about 5 years, and I think that those were the darkest years of my life. It was the only time in my life when I did not get to do what I wanted to do, when I was stranded amongst pickup trucks, shotguns, humidity and heat… surrounded by a heavy regulated, heavily constrictive religion… I have to be grateful for those days because those were the days that again put me on my path of following my heart, following my smile, following my happiness…

When people are telling me: “This is something you cannot do”, that’s when I go and say to myself: “I can do that, of course I can do that! WHY NOT?” Those others are not me, and are not used to follow their heart, instead they’re following a set of rules that can only constrict, restrict, impede creation, self expression, and a spiritual growth.

Let fear go!

Stop listening to the nay sayers, they’re afraid and jealous that you can see this bright future and they can’t.

Be bold in your life. Live the life you’re meant to live.

If you’ve wanted to explore, go explore. If you’ve wanted to see where your spiritual life will take you, allow yourself the journey.

All I am trying to convey to you is that, in my experience, people bound by rules that tell you WHO you are WHAT you are and WHAT you should do tend to live a very unhappy existence. Liberate yourself.

Free yourself to live in your TRUTH, in your LIGHT, in your LOVE! Let that resonate within, and see the difference between where you are now, and where you could be if you were to live in your TRUTH, LIGHT, LOVE.

Relinquish fear… what’s the worst that could happen? There is nothing that can destroy who you are! You are unique, and you are a part of all of us, a part of this amazing universe, an integral part of everything around you. We are all ONE! So, live your truth, live your light, and live in your love. Love yourself, love your neighbor, love your enemy because he’s trying to teach you about separation, love your parents because they’re trying to teach you about attachment, love your children they’re teaching you about growth, love your friends they’re trying to teach you about who you are, and again, LOVE YOURSELF! It seems like such a forbidden thing in our society, being good to ourselves, being gentle, being loving towards ourselves. Learning self love is the toughest thing we sometimes have to do, because we just don’t know how. nobody’s taught us that.

So start gently, and mimic the feelings you have towards you best friend, and point those towards yourself. TRY IT! don’t just read this, try it. Slow deep breath in then a slow deep breath out, allow yourself to feel the love for your best friend, and inhale slow deep breath, and let that feeling of love flood your body… again… and again…and again…

and that’s where I leave you,
with truth, love and light to you all.

You are Here

November 18, 2009

How simple of a statement this is, and yet, how incredibly difficult to understand it and live it. YOU ARE HERE. That’s is! There is nothing in the past, because there is no past! There is nothing in the future, because there is no future. Everything that you are exists ONLY here and now.

Do not be afraid. There is nothing in this present that can harm you. So take a deep breath in, get in touch with your body, then take a long deep exhale out, releasing any tension you might be carrying within your body.

I was wondering around in the Boulder Bookstore and my feet took me to this shelf, full of books that inspire and calm the spirit, and give it the guidance it needs. I extend a hand toward the shelf, and pick up this pretty (yes it is quite pretty) book, a calm yellow, with the you are here letters written in a yet another calming tone, red this time. I pick up the book and start reading.  When I lift my head out of this book next, 3 hours have passes, and I’ve read and re-read about 11 pages of the book. No, this is not a commentary on my reading skills. This is a commentary on the depth of this little book, and the intensity of thought that envelops you as you read it.

Thich Nhat Hanh’s “You Are Here” is an instruction on meditation, mindfulness, and fully living in this life, in this body, in these circumstances, living in the PRESENT. The book starts with:

Happiness and Peace are Possible.

I know, your automatic answer is: Well, of course happiness and peace are possible! You say you believe this statement, and you might for an hour or so, but the moment your attention is shifted away to the bills, the childrens’ schedule for the month, the deadline at work, or what ever other thing the universe brings in your path, you forget. You forget that Happiness and Peace is indeed Possible.

So, for the next few minutes, go back to that place in your heart where you KNOW that you are entitled to happiness and peace, and allow your breath to come in slowly on the inhale, long on the exhale. And as you inhale, say to yourself (like our friend Thich Nhat Hanh says):
“Breathing in, I know that I am breathing in.
Breathing out, I know that I am breathing out.”
“Breathing in, I know that I am breathing in.
Breathing out, I know that I am breathing out.”
“Breathing in, I know that I am breathing in.
Breathing out, I know that I am breathing out.”
“Breathing in, I know that I am breathing in.
Breathing out, I know that I am breathing out.”
“Breathing in, I know that I am breathing in.
Breathing out, I know that I am breathing out.”

If you are thinking about getting this book, do so. It truly is a little gem of a book, and I look forward to the path through its pages. May we all find the happiness and the peace that Thich Nhat Hanh talks about.

The Guest House

October 3, 2009

You know, when you get up in the morning and wonder: “What is this day about?”, answers are bound to come at you, sometimes from unexpected places.  As every morning happens, I got up this morning, and started taking care of the early morning things like coffee, a bit of breakfast, and as I go towards the bathroom to brush my teeth, I realized that today is my day to do as I please. I am recovering from a surgery from about 5 weeks ago, and now I’m at the end of a long week dealing with an acute ear infection that has blocked my hearing on my left ear, and somehow I have to get all better by tonight to go celebrate my best friend’s birthday.  So, as it happens sometimes, I was in need of a guide, in need of inspiration.  What’s the saying: “When the student is ready, the teacher will appear”? Well, I was ready, and here’s what I stumbled upon:

The Guest House

This being human is a guest house.

Every morning a new arrival.

A joy, a depression, a meanness,

some momentary awareness comes

as an unexpected visitor.

Welcome and entertain them all!

Even if they’re a crowd of sorrows,

who violently sweep your house

empty of its furniture,

still, treat each guest honorably.

He may be clearing you out

for some new delight.

The dark thought, the shame, the malice,

meet them at the door laughing,

and invite them in.

Be grateful for whoever comes,

because each has been sent

as a guide from beyond.

Rumi

rumi

As much as we try sometimes to find an answer, if we are not open/ready for it, we will never receive that message.  It is a matter of being open for the possibilities, open for a new perspective, open for a new path.  The universe could be screaming at you, and throwing heavy objects right past your field of view, but if you are not ready for it, you will continue to wonder, aimlessly along this path that it’s not bringing you any more joy. Blindness and deafness have plagued the souls of humanity for many millenia…

So, take a long deep breath, look at your life and its most current events, and let the lessons come to you.  Allow yourself the possibility for change.  Otherwise, through stagnation, you will have blocked your possibilities for growth, for happiness.  Nothing in this universe is constant, except change.  Allow yourself to make the next step in your personal spiritual evolution by greeting each day, no matter what kind of day it is, with a smile, and the knowledge that in the end, nothing can hurt you, and everything is going to be just fine.

We are made of light energy, which is eternal.  Nothing on this plane of existence can hurt or damage that.  The experiences of our daily lives can be trying, and in the middle of your pain it is difficult to remember that this too shall pass, and that the sun will shine again tomorrow. So keep smiling and be the best that you can be, everyday.

Here’s a book I’ve found inspiring

September 23, 2009

The Time Traveler's Wife The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger

My rating: 5 of 5 stars
I got so thoroughly absorbed into this book that I started thinking about ways to change my life.
I guess I got more out of it than I thought was possible, which is always a GREAT thing, being that sometimes, even the best authors fail to deliver.
“A definite MUST READ!”

Hello Atlanta Yoga~

September 3, 2009
How would you like to have a full class EVERY TIME YOU TEACH?

How would you like to have a full class EVERY TIME YOU TEACH?

Glad to be finally talking with you all Atlanta!  The idea for this site came to me during one of those moments of greatest need.  A moment when you need a substitute teacher for your class and cannot find one!

A couple of weeks back, I ended up having to go into emergency surgery, out of town.  I happen to teach 2 days per week, and one of those days was the day after I got admitted into the hospital.  As I said, this was a moment of greatest need.  I could not find anybody to cover my class!  Anybody!

If you can’t teach, you are letting your students down, and you might even loose their financial support.  But if you are a studio owner and your scheduled teacher can’t make it, you are loosing all the income from that class.  And for a small studio (even for a large one), having 1-2 missed classes per week, especially in this economy, could mean an unwanted end for the studio.

That’s why I’m here.  I’ve been there; I understand the need, the sometime urgent need, of finding a teacher.

So, this is one of the things that I am providing on this site.  Substitute teachers for the entire metro Atlanta.

I am putting together a list of resources for you today, so this never happens again to any studio owner, or any yoga teacher.

Besides providing substitute teachers, I’d also like to offer my help to those studios that need help reaching out to their community, getting the message out.  I focus mainly on the marketing needs of the small business, and especially of the yoga studios.  We, the yoga community, provide, I think an invaluable gift to the communities we live and teach in, by bringing awareness to the students about Unity in body mind and spirit, by allowing for sanctuary in each community.  I want to help you maintain your students and bring the benefits of yoga to everybody else in your community.

Namaste for now, and may you have a prosperous and divinely inspired day.
